Using a ruler, find the center of your pouch. Then measure 3/4″ each way for a 1.5″ middle stripe.
Do this again on the bottom, then connect the lines. Draw faintly so that paint will cover your pencil marks.
Tape off the zipper to prevent any stray paint.
Tape along your pencil lines on both sides. Then, start painting! Drag the brush along the sidelines and make sure the masking tape is firmly taped. Paint seeps through more easily than you think. At least for the middle stripe, the edges will eventually be covered by more paint.
And here is where I failed in taking step-by-step photos. Basically after the middle stripe dries, remove the masking tape and repeat the process of taping off your next stripes. This will require tape on both sides of the stripe this time. When you pull the tape off of already painted areas, it may take some paint with it. Just do minor touch-ups! Space the stripes however you like!
If your heart so desires, repeat the process on the back side of the clutch. I painted mine on both sides but it definitely isn’t necessary.
Et voila! A painted, striped clutch.
